Hello and welcome to the Conscious Music Movement page. I started up the CMM network because I am a singer, songwriter, musician and sound healer who's creative motivation is to give positively and wholesomely to people through the sharing of music. Over the years I have met many a musician who has this same motivation and I wanted to create a platform for these artists (and music fan's alike!) to connect and share ideas, lyrics, music and thoughts. There is power in individuals forming together as one to support each other and the CMM itself.
Conscious Songs for the people, the earth and the spirit
How many times has a song changed you? How many times have we put on a favourite cd and instantly it altered our mood, brought clarity, cleared the energetic vibes in the room, made us cry, made us burst into song?
As pure vibrations, music has always been, and always will be a powerful source of energy, but how is music adapting to the world we live in today? How can the humble song provide something good for the human spirit in these times? I believe the answer lies in the other half of a song… the lyrics, and the
intention in which this music is given to an audience.
The CMM Collective
There's a breed of musicians and songwriters out there who are pioneering the CMM. These artists are asking the big questions about life, death, spirituality, humanity and the universe, and are responding to what's happening in our world currently.
These artists form the Conscious Music Movement. As the world's consciousness evolves, so does all art as a reflection. As modern day artists become a part of this global shift in awareness, we are seeing more writing about their experiences and wisdom, and using their musical gifts to promote healthy living in all ways, spiritually, mentally and environmentally.
Some well known examples...
Throughout the last century there have been many songwriters who have put their spiritual wisdom in their lyrics (for example John Lennon, Joni Mitchell, Michael Franti, John Butler, Tracy Chapman, Cat Stevens, Deva Premal & Miten, Bob Marley, India Arie, Ritchie Havens and many more). Now is the time folks! It's time to create a big push for music and songs to ‘step up' and be more accountable for what goes out to listeners.
Just like your favourite inspiring book... but it's a song!
The CMM is like another form of alternative healing. Imagine songs that are like reading a book from authors like Eckhart Tolle, Paulo Coehlo, Paul Hawken, Deepak Chopra, Osho, Lama Sura Das or the Dalai Lama, but the spiritually inspired lyrics in the songs are bathed in music, with great melodies, verses and choruses and live performance as well!
Spreading the messages far and wide
Can you imagine if radio stations across the world played at least 50% positive music? As more and more people engage with songs from the “conscious music movement” I am confident there will be a global decrease in people's stress levels, anxiety, confusion, violence on each other and the planet… and there will be an increase in people's general happiness, emotional and spiritual clarity, quality of life and wellbeing.
Style doesn't matter... lyrical intention does!
The “conscious music movement” is defined by the lyrical motivation, not the style itself. It doesn't matter if the song is constructed as folk, jazz, rock or blues. It's the
messages in the lyrics combined with the
intention of the artist which offer something different to the typical “I have a broken heart” scenario or the “I think you're sexy” type pop songs…
Conscious music is real, it's human, it asks the listener to think, invites evolution and the opening of the heart. These CMM songs instill a positivity and spiritual awareness that can be powerful in this world and in our lives.
I hope you can join the CMM network and be a part of the evolving collective of artists and fans!
In Music & Peace
