relax, rejuvinate and meditate with a sonic sound experience that invites a deep listening

a journey in which to travel on the vibrations of beautiful sacred sound instruments, singing bowls, gongs, flutes, didgeridoo, human voice, and more

There are sounds all around us having an effect on our physical, mental and spiritual energy. Even the inner sound energy of thoughts in our minds can either have a positive or negative effect on us. All sound vibrational energy has the power to be received by the body, mind and spirit and has been adopted in various ways for many thousands of years. There is great power in being with music which helps enduce a deep listening, whether it be conscious listening like a meditation or unconsciously listening as the music and sounds may flow in the background. It is this approach to sound which can benefit us wholelistically.

"Having known most of Heather's musical projects over the years, when she presented her new one, Harmonic Project on Out of This World as part of Radio Adelaide's Live Music Festival I knew I had witnessed and heard something very special indeed! The idea that this form of music, ambient music, can inspire a deep listening, mesmerising experience was born out in her performance with her guest musician, Michael Farrell. Using a variety of instruments including gongs, drums, bamboo and ocarina flutes as well as a variety of harmonic singing techniques Heather and Michael presented a musical soundscape and performance that I consider to be one of the highlights of this years Live Music Festival at Radio Adelaide 101.5fm" Sox - Out of This World Program, Radio Adelaide 101.5fm

The Harmonic Project is an ambient live music experience which inspires a very deep listening. The sea of floating harmonics produced by the array of wonderfully unique instruments on stage brings inner stillness and heightened awareness.

The instruments featured in the Harmonic Project are Tibetan and Crystal singing bowls, Chinese chao gong, Thai Lotus Flower gong, Soul Orb melodic steel drums, djembe drum, bamboo and ocarina flutes, and various vocal singing techniques including haunting harmonic singing, mantra chanting and soulful improvised melodies.

Giving birth to the Harmonic Project is Adelaide based musician Heather Frahn along with guest musician Michael Farrell. Heather's creative motivation is to generate positive energy in the world and to share her musical talents for the benefit of others.

Heather Frahn has a mighty voice and a music career spanning over 15 years. She has won several music awards including Most Outstanding Female Vocalist of South Australia in both 2000 and 2004, Most Outstanding Instrumentalist of South Australia in 2004 and Young Citizen of the Year in 2006.

Heather has a strong background in singing and songwriting, and is also an instrument inventor, event producer, multi instrumentalist, music teacher and inspiration to many. Over the years her music has taken her on a journey into several creative outlets including performing solo and with her trio, sound design for theatre and film, ambient music for healing, leading workshops with diverse groups of people, playing unusual instruments and touring internationally. Heather’s multi dimensional creative work has ventured anywhere from theatre companies to hospital wards to festival stages.

From regularly working in the Arts In Health team at Flinders Medical Center (one of Adelaide’s biggest public hospitals) Heather has brought sound and music to countless patients on the wards helping them to relax through listening. After receiving mentoring in the United Kingdom from reputable teachers in using singing bowls, gongs and the human voice for healing, Heather returned to Australia inspired to piece together a live ambient music experience which has sound healing and sound meditation elements. It is through her continued exploration into sound healing using the voice and ancient instruments which has brought the birth of this exciting Harmonic Project. One of the prime motivations behind the Harmonic Project is to provide a space where an audience can come and rest, become still, open their ‘third ear’ and simply listen to the beautiful intimacies within live harmonic sound.

Heather is joined on the Harmonic Project stage by musician Michael Farrell. At the age of just 20 Michael presents a strong passion for unique instruments and sounds. Inspired by instrument inventor Dennis Havlena, Michael has made several melodic steel drums of his own from recycled gas cylinder bottles of which he has called “Soul Orbs”. Michael’s Soul Orb drums are a must see to believe sort of instrument, with each drum consisting of six or eight notes which sing a very beautiful sound that provide rich sonic backdrops.

Together Heather and Michael present a multi layered, yet simple sonic sound scape which seamlessly ebbs and flows as the Harmonic Project.
